Douglas Kirk “Fish” Oden was born November 29, 1958, in Jacksonville, Texas, to Charles and Charla Oden. He was raised by his loving grandparents, Daddy Joe and Mama Jo Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Kirk was a 1977 graduate of Sam Rayburn High School, Pasadena, Texas, and attended St. John’s College, Florida, on a debate scholarship. Dow Chemical hired Kirk in 1981 as a pipefitter and, after 25 years of service, his career completed as a TDI Technician–PCE Focal Point. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Kirk is survived his by his beloved wife, Dawn Walker Oden; and his children, Kevin Michael Oden, Tyler Martin Oden and Kyndall Jolye Oden; and stepchildren, Trey Foss and Tiffany Dawn Foss; sister, Carla Oden Hebert and husband, Jim; brothers, Carl Oden, and wife, Dena, D. Keith Oden and wife, Sandy; nieces, Sarah Oden and Lindsay Oden; nephews, Travis Oden and David Oden; aunts; uncles; and friends.

Fish Oden fought a long courageous battle with heart disease and fought to the very end as a warrior! Kirk was blessed with a great gift of storytelling and a quick wit, and brightened all those he encountered. He loved his family dearly, the Texas Longhorns, basketball and life! “It’s all good!”

Kirk went to be home in “peace” with his Savior on Saturday, May 20, 2006, where he already had proclaimed, “By his stripes I am healed.”

Visitation was held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home.

His service to celebrate his life will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Steve Scott.

Kirk, you are so loved and will be greatly missed by all!! Thank you for your contributions to our lives. We are forever touched!!
